We invite you to apply for a
to conceptualize and quantify the controls of anvil extent and cloud feedback of tropical deep convection across scales. As a successful candidate, you will combine your expertise in deep convective processes with advanced data-driven methods and have the autonomy to set your own scientific emphasis. As team member of the ERC Starting Grant “MesoClou”, you will work with PhD students and a fellow postdoc and be supported by an external team of deep-learning experts. You will also become an integral part of the Multiscale Cloud Physics Group currently being established by Franziska Glassmeier at the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology.
We are looking for a curiosity-driven and conceptually-minded candidate who enjoys scientific discussion and complex data analysis.
To be considered for this position, you must have a PhD in a relevant field. As a suitable candidate you have expertise in deep convective cloud processes and experience with scientific data analysis. Prior experience in applying machine learning methods is not required. You should also have experience in presenting your results to the scientific community at international conferences and through peer-reviewed publications in international journals.
As a successful candidate, we will expect you to shape, perform and present your research independently and work individually as well as in teams.
Applications received before June 08, 2025 (23:59 CEST) will receive full consideration.
