THE POSITION

We are now opening a 2-year position for

Postdoctoral | Research Scientist (W-0033 | all genders)

The successful applicants will join a team of scientists involved in the European Horizon Europe (HEU) project FOCAL to implement a regional climate model at the sub-kilometer spatial scale in an urban area of Germany with the aim of projecting local impacts of future climate change, and to assess the usefulness of possible adaptation actions taken in response to these changes. The FOCAL project is part of the HEU Research and Inoovation project family. It will be implemented over the next 36 months, and involves 15 partners from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Belgium, Spain, and Greece.  The objective is to develop a platform that combines intelligent workflow management with high-performance computing infrastructure, (including data management and connectivity with artificial intelligence) to enhance our understanding of climate change impacts at the local scale for urban planning and forest management. A major task for the work group Environmental Modeling at MPI-M, as part of a pilot activity, will be to assess the local impacts of future climate change, and provide to decision makers relevant science-based information to develop effective adaptation measures.
